Some people have the luxury of attending college full-time without having to work. Most people can’t afford this kind of lifestyle. For the student who wants to complete school quickly, the only option is often to take a full course load while working part-time. It can be a draining experience but it goes a lot more smoothly if you’re smart about the part-time job that you choose.

Here are some of the best part-time jobs to get when you’re in school:

• On-campus jobs. They don’t pay well but they’re the most flexible with your school schedule and will even give you time off during midterms and finals.
• Jobs that let you study. Being the cashier at a parking lot that isn’t busy or working as a security monitor overnight can give you downtime to study while you’re getting paid.
• Online jobs. If you can snag a job that will let you work from your computer, such as a part-time blogging gig, then you have some flexibility in your schedule and can even work from campus.
• High-paying student jobs. Jobs like bartending or modeling for art classes let students earn enough money with just a few hours of work per week so that they don’t tax their time too much.
• Intermittent jobs. Some students find that it’s best to put together a hodge-podge of short-term jobs to earn money intermittently throughout the semester.
